- Defending The Duchess

- <p> Even for the rabid London press, it was going too far. Just
- days before Christmas, Richard Blackwell, the noted purveyor of
- worst-dressed lists, carped that the Duchess of York, the former
- Sarah Ferguson, looked "as if she makes beds in Ireland, or
- milks cows." The remarks came as the newly svelte Fergie was
- having daughter Beatrice christened last week. The tabloids,
- merciless till recently about the duchess's pudginess, leaped to
- defend her. WHAT A JERK, howled the Sun. The Daily Mirror railed
- that Blackwell was not one to point fingers, having had four
- face-lifts. No need for a fifth -- off with his head!
